Imeco Evaporative Cooling Products

Imeco has been manufacturing evaporative cooling products continuously for over 60 years.  Due to their heavy duty construction Imeco is best known in the industrial refrigeration market as a supplier of top of the line condensers.

Imeco introduced the IMC series cooling tower in the late 1980’s with the same top of the line construction as standard their welded hot dipped after fabrication galvanized steel cold water basin which has twice the zinc protection of the commercial G-235 galvanizing currently offered by others.

Imeco was acquired by York International and then through acquisition by Johnson Controls, Inc.  This new ownership has created a demand by customers in the HVAC market for the Imeco product line which has not compromised their original Industrial construction features. Imeco does not use self taping screws only nuts, bolts & washers in the construction of their products.  Parts that are welded are hot dipped galvanized after fabrication. Welds are not painted over like others offer.

EFC-C  Series with 47 models with performances from 32 to 1480 GPM* .

EFC-C Series Industrial Evaporative Closed Circuit Coolers  offers the heavy duty construction that has made Imeco the “top of the line” choice in the industrial Refrigeration market.

Features:

  • The Imeco cold water basin assembly (pan section) is constructed of welded heavy gauge steel that is completely hot dipped galvanized after fabrication for double the protection offered by G-235 galvanized steel.  The pan section along with to coil are the areas of the cooler that requires to most protection against an aggressive water.
  • The heat transfer coil is welded 0.060” tube wall thickness, leak tested both before and after the assembly is hot dipped galvanized.  Imeco also offers a heavier 0.113” tube wall thickness for longer coil life.
  • The coil casing is constructed of G-235 galvanized steel. Imeco also offers the casing in hot dipped galvanized steel after fabrication for twice the zinc protection.
  • The Imeco fan section is constructed of heavy duty, forward-curve centrifugal fans selected to operate at low a RPM for longer life and quiet operation.  Fans are mounted on a steel shaft supported by oversized, self-aligning, heavy-duty, ball bearings with extended lubrication points for easy service.  Fan wheels are hot dipped galvanized after fabrication.
  • Imeco’s fan and motors are side mounted for easy access for maintenance and repairs. The complete fan assembly with motor can be removed for more extensive repairs that can not be completed in a tight cooler enclosure. This is a feature that is over looked by many until they have to knock a hole in the enclosure wall to remove another manufacturer’s fan shaft.

 

EFC-P Series with 181 models from 163 to 2,790 GPM*.

EFC-P Series Industrial Evaporative Closed Circuit Coolers  offers the heavy duty construction that has made Imeco the “top of the line” choice in the industrial Refrigeration market.  The Imeco vane-axial cooler will handle the same heat of rejection that a typical EFC-C series, but at about half the fan horse power.

  • The Imeco cold water basin assembly (pan section) is constructed of welded heavy gauge steel that is completely hot dipped galvanized after fabrication for double the protection offered by G-235 galvanized steel.  The pan section along with to coil are the areas of the cooler that requires to most protection against an aggressive water.
  • The heat transfer coil is welded 0.060” tube wall thickness, leak tested both before and after the assembly is hot dipped galvanized.  Imeco also offers a heavier 0.113” tube wall thickness for longer coil life.
  • The coil casing is constructed of G-235 galvanized steel. Imeco also offers the casing in hot dipped galvanized steel after fabrication for twice the zinc protection.
  • All EFC-P Series coolers use vane-axial, two stage heavy duty cast aluminum fans mounted in a fan orifice tube with air guides mounted between the first and second stage fans to straighten the air between the fans, improving fan performance.  The fans are designed to run at low RPM to reduce wear and noise. The fan assembly with orifice ring, guide vanes, fan supports are welded and hot dipped galvanized after fabrication in keeping with Imeco’s “top of the line” quality reputation. 
  • Fan shaft bearings are lubricated through extended lube line at casing exterior. The fan motor is mounted on a slide base and protected from the weather.  Motor are factory pre-wired to the cooler end panel areas in j-boxes.
  • Imeco’s multiple fan motor units included plenum and coil partitions as standard to permit fan cycle of individual motors for reduce energy use without spray water blow back in the idle fan.

IDFC  Series with 76 models from 744 to 5345 GPM*

IDFC Series Industrial Evaporative Closed Circuit Coolers  offers the heavy duty construction that has made Imeco the “top of the line” choice in the industrial Refrigeration market.

Features:

  • The Imeco cold water basin assembly (pan section) is constructed of welded heavy gauge steel that is completely hot dipped galvanized after fabrication for double the protection offered by G-235 galvanized steel.  The pan section along with to coil are the areas of the cooler that requires to most protection against an aggressive water.
  • The heat transfer coil is welded 0.060” tube wall thickness, leak tested both before and after the assembly is hot dipped galvanized.  Imeco also offers a heavier 0.113” tube wall thickness for longer coil life.  The standard coil is pressure tested under water before and after galvanizing at 50 psig, a 28% higher test level than competitive fluid coolers.  This yields a design operating pressure of 300 psig.
  • The coil casing is constructed of G-235 galvanized steel. Imeco also offers the casing in hot dipped galvanized steel after fabrication for twice the zinc protection.
  • Every IDFC induced draft evaporative fluid cooler comes with an unparalleled 5 year motor and drive warranty. The motor is a premium quality totally enclosed design with 1.15 service factor
  • A hinged access door provides access to the fan plenum area.
  • Industrially designed, flange mounted, double-row, self aligning, fan shaft taper roller bearings have a minimum L10 bearing life of 133,500 hours, 78% greater than the competition’s. Lubrication lines extended for ease of service.
  • The fan sheaves are constructed of corrosion resistant cast aluminum alloy. The fan belt is a multi-groove v-belt power band designed for 150% of fan horse power.
  • The spray water pump is a close-coupled centrifugal unit with a ductile iron housing, closed impeller, mechanical seal, and is driven by a TEFC motor with a 1.15 service factor.  The pump s mounted vertically under an all weather hood to permit self draining and is completely piped, using scheduled 40 PVC pipe to a spray system also constructed of PVC with large orifice spray nozzles.
  • The Mist eliminators are constructed of PVC with multiple breaks to remove water droplets from the air stream. These light weight eliminators are made in easily removable panels to allow easy access to the spray system and top of coil area.
  • The air inlet louvers are constructed of a multiple pass PVC lover panels.  Panels are easily removed for complete access to the entire cold water basin.

YFC Series with 29 model from 29 to 1114 GPM*

Imeco’s YFC Series closed circuit evaporative cooler is constructed of premium materials for harsh environments or for customers who are looking for a longer life cooler.

These features include

  • Copper heat transfer coil.
  • Welded stainless steel cold water basin
  • Stainless steel access doors that runs the almost the full height of the cooler thus allowing the service tech access to the cold water basin, coil, spray system and drift eliminators from one location.
  • Upgrades allow for stainless steel casing, stainless steel fan housing and epoxy coated fan wheels.  The standard casing is galvanized steel.
  • Nuts, bolts and washers, NO self taping screws used.

Unit construction:

 Cabinet: Imeco’s standard construction is galvanized steel, flanged and gasketed to provide a watertight enclosure. Imeco uses no self taping screws only nuts, bolts and washers. All internal cooling coil support framing is constructed of stainless steel at avoid corrosion.

Access Doors: Gasketed, oversized, stainless steel access doors are made for easy entry to clean the sump basin.  Quick-acting latches mean superior serviceability and ensure a watertight fit.

Sump Basin:  Say goodbye to leaks with Imeco’s welded stainless steel construction.  Pan includes stainless steel drain connection with removable plastic overflow standpipe installed. Overflow standpipe is easy to remove by hand and makes draining the sump pan for cleaning a snap.

Cooling Coil Assembly:  Copper tubes (5/8”OD) and return bends with silver-brazed joints.  Tubes are supported by rugged CPVC-insert tube sheets. All cooling coils  are tested under water at 350 psig to ensure leak-free operation.

Spray system:  Spray water system consist of a close coupled centrifugal spray pump that draws water from the sump basin and distributes it over the entire cooling coil assembly.  Spray headers and nozzles are durable ABS plastic and the nozzles incorporate large orifices to reduce to potential for clogging.  Spray headers have easy-to-remove end caps located outside the unit casing to facilitate service.  Spray pump motors are available as either 208 or 230-460 volt, 60 cycles, 3 phase.  Consult factory for alternate voltage or cycle characteristics.

Blower:  Forward-curved centrifugal blower is constructed of galvanized steel.  Wheels are balanced after unit assembly to enhance smooth operation.  Blower wheels are keyed to a polished, precision-ground, solid steel shaft.  Wheels are supported by rugged, prelubricated, self-aligning bearings, specially selected for long service life. 

Blower Motors and Drives:  1800 RPM motors with 1.15 service factor are standard. Available as 208 or 230-460 volt, 60 cycle 3 phase. Consult factory for alternate voltage or cycle characteristics.  All motors undergo complete factory run-testing prior to shipping.

Drive Pulleys and V-belts are conservatively selected to provide continuous, trouble free service.  Motors are mounted on heavy-duty adjustable base to allow for fan belt tension adjustment.

Drift Eliminators:  Easily removable sections constructed from corrosion resistant polyvinyl-chloride (PVC).  Efficient design ensures removal of entrained water droplets from leaving air stream, limiting drift rate to 0.002%  of recircuitation water rate.

Bleed Control:  Factory calibrated automatic bleed trough minimizes scaling without excessive water loss. 

Water Make-up System :  The water make-up system is comprised of a solid brass float valve and arm.  Stainless steel baffles surround the float ball on three sides to isolate the float.  This prevents the ball from being bounced by internal air stream turbulence and gives stable operation.

Extended Lube Lines:  Run from bearing to outside of the fan guard.  With this easy access position, the fan guard can be left in place during service.  Just place grease gun against fitting and squirt.

Imeco IMC Series Cooling Towers:

Imeco offers 87 models with single cells between 80 to 717 nominal ton and multiple cells cataloged to 2,750 nominal tons. Nominal tons are based on 95F in to 85F out at 78F wet bulb and 3 GPM/ton.

Features:

  • A CTI Certified performance assures the owner that cooling tower performances are reliable.
  • Counter flow cooling tower design with the following inherited benefits
    • Hot water spray system constructed of corrosion free PVC, lower pressure self-balancing spray nozzles that eliminate the need for hot water basin balancing valves.
    • The cooling tower fill is protected from winter freezing winds by the tower’s casing.  This reduces icing on the fill intake.
    • PVC UV protected air inlet louvers with 2 air flow direction changes minimize direct sun light into the coldwater basin.
    • Water is cooled in almost total darkness thus reducing the growth of algae and chemical cost required to keep it under control.
  • Imeco has introduced G-235 galvanized steel in the upper fan plenum area and fill casing section.  However the most important area, the cold water basin, Imeco still uses hot dipped galvanized steel with double the zinc protection than any cooling tower offered today.  It is important to get the best corrosion protection in the cold water basin because it is the foundation of the cooling tower.  When its construction becomes compromised the cooling tower is either looking at an expensive repair or replacement.
  • The Imeco counter flow design allows the operator access to the “complete” cold water basin without removing the tower fill as required with the cross flow design.  This “complete” access will allow the operator to maintain and repair the basin as needed at minimal cost before the damage requires a tower replacement.
  • Imeco offers both power band or gear reducer fan drive systems.
    • The power band drive consist of a single piece, polyester cord reinforced, neoprene, multi-groove belt, self-aligning, grease-packed ball bearings with external lubrication connections, motor and aluminum alloy fan shaft sheaves.
    • The gear reducer drive system consists of a right angle gear reducer, flexible coupling and motor.
    • The fan assembly consist of adjustable aluminum alloy fan blades attached to an aluminum alloy fan hub
  • The Imeco cooling tower fill and drift eliminators are constructed of non-combustible heavy duty PVC material.  The maximum operating temperature is 135F with optional fill material for up to 150F. The cross fluted design produces fill strong enough to be used as a working platform when working inside the cooling tower.
